Work with your doctor or primary care physician to build a team of specialists, care providers and supporters.

Look for people you will like working with. Do they answer your questions? Do they listen? Are they available when you need them?

Look for people who have had a lot of experience and keep up to date with research. Look for doctors who are board certified.
 

Starting Line-Up:

• Urologists are doctors or surgeons who treat the urinary tract and male reproductive system.
• Oncologists are doctors who treat cancer and can be surgeons, radiation and medical doctors as well.
• Radiation Oncologists specialize in radiation treatment for cancer.
• Medical Oncologists specialize in medication for cancer, including hormone treatment, chemotherapy and treatment of side effects.
• Oncology Nurses specialize in caring for cancer patients.

On the Bench:

• Oncology Social Workers provide a broad range of help specifically for cancer patients and are good people to go to when you don’t know how to solve a problem or who else to ask.
• Pathologists analyze blood and tissue samples and interpret biopsy results.
• Oncology Pharmacists specialize in managing cancer medicines.
• Dietitians help you develop the best diet to support your treatment.
• Psysiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in rehabilitation medicine, and can be helpful in dealing with certain side effects from prostate cancer treatment.
• Clinical Social Workers provide personal and marital counseling or family therapy.
• Psychologists have a doctoral degree in psychology and counseling, and may also specialize in helping people with marital problems or chronic illness.
• Psychiatrists are medical doctors who help people with anxiety, depression and general coping problems, and can provide medical treatment if needed.
