State Advocacy
ZERO is dedicated to building grassroots advocates and influencing prostate cancer legislation throughout the states.
ZERO's current state initiative involves organizing state efforts to require insurance companies to cover prostate cancer screening. This measure will ensure that every man covered by health insurance is guaranteed to receive the PSA and DRE exams as part of their health plan according to the guideline set by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. To date, there are only 30 states with mandates in place, compared to breast cancer (49).

You can get involved by writing or visiting your elected officials, testifying at hearings, joining an existing state coalition, or building a new one.
ZERO The Project to End Prostate Cancer works with advocates on important state policy issues including requiring insurance companies to cover annual screenings for prostate cancer and establishing state-run programs to provide screening and treatment in underserved areas.
ZERO firmly believes ending prostate cancer is a team effort and wants to build a network of advocates across the country to help us in our efforts. To do this, ZERO encourages advocates in each state to develop a local ZERO chapter in their respective state. These local chapters would work directly with ZERO to fight to pass state insurance mandates and push for awareness of the disease within the state. To learn more about how you can establish a local ZERO chapter, contact Kevin or Marie.
While issues like insurance mandates and access to care are inherent to our mission at ZERO, the public policy department is here to serve the prostate cancer community. We want to hear from you what policy concerns you have in your state. Please contact Kevin or Marie with your questions, concerns or comments. Divided we are only as strong as our loudest advocate, but united we are a community that demands to be heard.
Currently, 30 States have prostate cancer screening insurance mandate laws on the books.
