Federal Advocacy
ZERO - The Project to End Prostate Cancer's public policy department works to increase the nation's investment in new research strategies, accelerate the approval of new cancer treatments, assure access to the best treatment available and expand programs to increase prostate cancer education and promote early detection.
Current Legislation and Legislative Priorities
ZERO's public policy department is hard at work organizing testimony, and securing support from legislators in the House and Senate for prostate cancer research funding through targeted programs in the Department of Defense (DoD), the National Institutes of Health and National Cancer Institute. ZERO also places a great deal of energy advocating for the Thomas J. Manton Early Detection and Treatment Act, as well as several other initiatives.

How it Works
The federal appropriations process determines where federal money is allocated for use each year.
The legislative process involves a series of steps the federal government must go through in order to pass legislation.
Dear Colleague Letter
As part of our strategy for increasing federal research funding for prostate cancer, ZERO works with Senators and Representatives to conduct an annual "Dear Colleague" campaign requesting adequate funding for the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program at the DoD. The "Dear Colleague" letter is circulated on Capitol Hill by sponsoring Members seeking support from their colleagues for funding for the critical Prostate Cancer Research Program. The letter is then submitted to the Appropriations Subcommittees on Defense in the House and Senate respectively.
The fiscal year 2009 letters included signatures from 32 Senators and 95 Representatives respectively.
Write Your Officials
Legislators continue to threaten funding for critical prostate cancer research programs. In order to make prostate cancer research funding a priority on Capitol Hill, contact your Senators and Representative today and ask them to vote for full funding for the Department of Defense (DoD) Prostate Cancer Research Program and all cancer research programs at the National Institutes of Health.
Share with them your personal story with cancer and why funding for prostate cancer research programs are important to you.
