What's New at ZERONew Members Elected to ZERO's Board of DirectorsDr.
Sanford “Sandy” Siegel of Baltimore, MD and Mrs. Sherry S. Galloway of
Albuquerque, NM are Dr. Siegel is the President and CEO of Chesapeake Urology Associates, the largest urology practice in Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic Region with 16 urology centers, the Prostate Center, the Incontinence Center and 14 surgical centers throughout the greater Baltimore, Maryland area. Dr. Siegel initiated the Chesapeake Urology Scholarship Program and was a leader in establishing the Chesapeake Urology Scholar through the American Urological Association Foundation. In 2007, he led the formation of the “Great Prostate Cancer Challenge” (GPCC) to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer research. GPCC 5K races, in partnership with ZERO’s DASH FOR DAD race series, represent the premier men’s health race event in the U.S. which is coming to 12 cities this year and engaging more than 6,000 runners and 10,000 volunteers, spectators and supporters. Dr. Siegel graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and received specialty training at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. He has practiced urology in the Baltimore area for more than 20 years and is certified by the American Board of Urology.
Hearing Set to Push for Increased Research Funding for Prostate CancerThe House Appropriations Defense subcommittee will convene a public witness hearing on May 20 at 10:00am in room H-140 of the U.S. Capitol. The hearing is expected to feature testimony regarding programs of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP). Sherry Galloway, RN and Jonathon W. Simons, MD will testify to make the case for increased research funding for the Prostate Cancer Research Program. Sherry, a registered nurse and ZERO board member, has had an intimate experience with prostate cancer as her husband is a 6-year survivor and her son died with advanced metastatic prostate cancer at the age of 36. Dr. Simons is CEO and president of the Prostate Cancer Foundation. He will present testimony focusing on the scientific needs of the prostate cancer community.
'DASH FOR DAD' Race Series Coming to 12 Cities to Raise Prostate Cancer AwarenessAs National Race Series Expands Across U.S. in 2010, Supporters Are Encouraged to Bring This Event to Their City Lace up your sneakers and join us in the race to end prostate cancer! DASH FOR DAD, the premier prostate cancer race series in the U.S., is a heartfelt tight-knit community event that brings together athletes, cancer survivors, physicians, caregivers, family members and friends. Proceeds from each 10K race are used to provide free prostate cancer testing for men in the local community of the event. ZERO - The Project to End Prostate Cancer, with sponsors from across the country, has grown the DASH FOR DAD and its partner races - the Great Prostate Cancer Challenge® - to include 12 cities and an expected 6,000 runners competing in 2010. Since the national race series began in 2008, more than $1 million has been raised to promote prostate cancer awareness, early detection and research. Many runners create teams and collect monetary pledges from family and friends to boost funding for local prostate cancer services.
