Capitol Hill Briefing on Prostate Cancer Set for April 20
The Prostate Cancer Foundation, in conjunction with ZERO - The Project to End Prostate Cancer, is hosting a Capitol Hill briefing entitled "Reaching Beyond the PSA Debate: Identifying New Biomarkers So We Can Overtreat Less and Cure More."
The event will look beyond the current PSA testing debate in order to examine current and future research that may lead to new breakthroughs in testing, diagnosis and therapies for the disease.

The Prostate Cancer Research Program is one of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs at the Department of Defense. For more than 10 years, the program has been the model of efficiency and effectiveness, but now after nine years of nearly stagnant funding, the program is being forced to make tough funding decisions -- which could jeopardize good research and prolong our fight against the disease that takes the lives of 27,000 men each year.
Please write to your Congressman and Senators today. Ask them to support the request made by their colleagues to provide increased funding for the Prostate Cancer Research Program.
For every year that Congress does not increase this funding, more research is left on the review table and less work is done to move research into critical clinical trials that could save lives.

As National Race Series Expands Across U.S. in 2010, Supporters Are Encouraged to Bring This Event to Their City
Lace up your sneakers and join us in the race to end prostate cancer!
DASH FOR DAD, the premier prostate cancer race series in the U.S., is a heartfelt tight-knit community event that brings together athletes, cancer survivors, physicians, caregivers, family members and friends. Proceeds from each 10K race are used to provide free prostate cancer testing for men in the local community of the event.
ZERO - The Project to End Prostate Cancer, with sponsors from across the country, has grown the DASH FOR DAD and its partner races - the Great Prostate Cancer Challenge - to include 11 cities and an expected 7,000 runners competing in 2010.

New Agent Chokes Off Energy Supply, Kills Cancer Cells
An experimental drug has been developed by Ohio researchers that causes cancer cells to self-destruct, as this "energy restriction" process deprives cancer cells of their main energy source, the sugar glucose.
Gamma-Tocotrienol Kills Prostate Tumour Cells in Animal Model Studies
Gamma-tocotrienol, a member of the vitamin E family, is potent in killing prostate cells, and tumour shrinkage was achieved when used in conjunction with the chemotherapy treatment Docetaxel.
CytRx to Initiate a Phase 2 Clinical Trial With Bafetinib in Advanced Prostate Cancer
A new clinical trial is planned for up to 50 patients with metastatic hormone-refractory prostate cancer, and researchers hope bafetinib can provide a better quality of life by reducing drug-related side effects.
